Dr Jason Oates has been performing facial plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery procedures in Perth for 25 years. WHAT IS A LIP LIFT?
Lip lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure aimed at shortening the distance between the upper lip and the nose, resulting in a more youthful and defined lip contour.
This surgical technique focuses on elevating the position of the upper lip, thereby increasing the visibility of the pink part of the lips (the vermilion) and creating a fuller, more attractive appearance.

PROCEDURE
Lip lift surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation, ensuring a comfortable experience. The most common techniques include:
Direct Lip Lift: A small strip of skin is removed just above the upper lip, and the remaining skin is lifted to achieve the desired effect.
Subnasal or Bullhorn Lip Lift: An incision is made along the base of the nose, shaped like a bullhorn, to lift the central part of the upper lip.
Dr Oates performs facelift procedures at the government-licensed Academy Day Hospital, on-site at Academy Face and Body in Subiaco, Perth under twilight sedation.
Incisions are usually made in the crease at the base of the nose or inside the nostrils to reduce visibility.
No bandages will be applied to the face after the procedure but an antibiotic ointment is prescribed to be applied on the incision.

It is also recommended to stick to a mostly liquid diet that includes soups and smoothies to prevent any unnecessary mouth movements. Patients should refrain from biting into and chewing any hard foods for at least a month after their procedure.
A lip lift is generally considered a less invasive procedure. Patients can expect some mild bruising and swelling after their lip lift procedure and any stitches can generally be removed after a week. Dr Oates generally recommends 7-10 days off of work. This will vary from patient to patient, and will also depend on the level of physicality required in their work.
