Hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes excessive sweating, can be embarrassing and affect both your professional and social life. Fortunately, there are several ways to treat this condition. At Academy Face and Body, we use injections to treat hyperhidrosis.
The first step is to determine what’s causing it, which will require a consultation at our clinic. You may also need to meet with your GP depending on the underlying cause of the condition.
Excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis, can significantly impact daily life and self-confidence.
The procedure is straightforward and minimally invasive. It begins with a consultation to determine the suitability of treatment for the individual’s hyperhidrosis.
Most patients begin to notice a reduction in sweating within a few days to a week after the treatment. The effects can last from four to twelve months, after which repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the results. Many patients experience an 80-90% reduction in sweating, which significantly enhances comfort and confidence, especially in social and professional settings. The treatment is quick, minimally invasive, and involves little to no downtime.
At Academy Face and Body in Perth, we bring extensive expertise in aesthetic treatment options for diverse skin types and concerns. Commitment to skincare is crucial for maintaining skin health and addressing specific issues.

Excessive sweating treatments help manage hyperhidrosis, a condition characterised by abnormally excessive sweating that can occur even when the body does not need cooling. This condition can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life, leading to social, emotional, and occupational challenges.
The treatment works by temporarily blocking the nerves responsible for activating sweat glands. When applied into the affected areas, such as the underarms, palms, feet, or face, it prevents the release of a chemical called acetylcholine, which signals the sweat glands to produce sweat. As a result, sweating in the treated areas is significantly reduced.
Following treatment, patients can usually resume normal activities immediately, though some may experience mild side effects, such as bruising or discomfort at the injection sites.
The effects of treatment can be seen within a few days, with maximum results typically achieved in about two weeks. The reduction in sweating can last from four to six months, after which repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the results.
The effects are not permanent, necessitating repeat treatments for ongoing management.
Physical Comfort
Reducing excessive sweating can lead to greater physical comfort, particularly in social, professional, and physical activities where sweating might be noticeable or uncomfortable.
Improved Confidence
Many individuals with hyperhidrosis experience embarrassment or self-consciousness due to visible sweat stains or dampness. Effective treatment can boost self-esteem and reduce anxiety related to sweating.
Better Skin Health
Excessive sweating can contribute to skin issues such as infections, rashes, and chafing. Treating hyperhidrosis can help maintain healthier skin and reduce the risk of these problems.
Odour Control
Excessive sweating, especially in areas like the underarms, can lead to body odour.
Reduction in Secondary Infections
Areas of excessive sweating can become breeding grounds for bacteria and fungi, leading to secondary infections. By controlling sweating, the risk of such infections decreases.
Emotional and Mental Health
Persistent worry about sweating can lead to stress and anxiety, leading to better mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Excessive Sweating treatments are a choice for those seeking a non-surgical procedure with several benefits that can significantly improve the quality of life for those affected. It’s particularly effective for:

Most patients notice a significant reduction in sweating within a few days to a week, with the effects lasting for several months, usually around 6-12 months. The treatment can be repeated once the effects wear off.
Potential side effects include pain or bruising at the injection site, headache, and flu-like symptoms, although serious side effects are rare and may include muscle weakness near the injection area.

Excessive sweating is caused by overactive sweat glands. It affects millions of people around the world every day. When sweating (or hyperhidrosis) is excessive it can be uncomfortable, stressful, and embarrassing. It can affect someone’s self-esteem and impact everything from style choice and sporting activities through to career decisions and relationships.
While stress and high temperatures can increase perspiration, they do not cause hyperhidrosis.
This condition is an inherited trait or physiological condition that prevents the body from properly regulating its temperature. It can occur in various parts of the body including the underarms, feet, scalp and palms of the hands.
During your consultation, we will first help you to identify the underlying cause of the condition. In some instances, it can be caused by certain medications. Once an alternative medication is found, the condition should subside on its own. Your general practitioner can assist you with this process. If the condition is deemed to be hereditary or a general physiological condition, wrinkle relaxers can be used to treat it.
During your treatment, a series of small injections are administered. The ingredients in wrinkle relaxer injections will prevent specific nerves from triggering the sweat glands, resulting in drier hands, feet and underarms.
The number of injections required will depend on the areas that need to be treated. Overall, the treatment is quick and straightforward, meaning patients can return to work or head home directly after their appointment.
As with any medication or treatment there may be some side effects. Because this treatment only requires a small amount of product, any side effects are usually only around the injection site and are temporary.
The most common side effects are pain or small bruises around the injection site, transient arm weakness, and a perceived increase in sweating in areas other than the underarms. All of the potential side effects of the treatment will be discussed with you during the consultation.
