A neck lift, medically known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a sophisticated surgical procedure aimed at rejuvenating the appearance of the neck. This procedure effectively repositions and tightens the skin, underlying muscles, and tissues to create a smoother, more youthful neck contour.
Over time, factors such as ageing, genetics, and environmental influences can lead to sagging skin, excess fat deposits, and muscle laxity in the neck area. A neck lift addresses these issues by removing excess skin and fat, tightening the platysma muscle, and redistributing the remaining skin for a natural and revitalised appearance.
A neck lift includes improved jawline definition, which enhances the contour of the jawline and provides a more defined and attractive profile.

A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the neck and jawline by removing excess skin and fat, and by tightening the underlying muscles. This surgery aims to address common signs of ageing, such as sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and jowls, creating a smoother, more youthful contour.
A neck lift can be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures, such as a facelift or liposuction, to achieve a harmonious and balanced appearance.
With a commitment to achieving natural and rejuvenating results, Dr Oates applies his extensive experience and advanced techniques to every neck lift procedure, ensuring that each patient receives personalised and meticulous care. Dr Oates’ comprehensive approach to lower rhytidectomy aims to restore a smoother, firmer, and more youthful neck appearance.
Youthful Appearance
Reduce signs of ageing. The procedure effectively tightens loose, sagging skin, and removes excess fat, resulting in a smoother, firmer neck and jawline.
Improved Profile
A well-defined jawline and a sleek neck contour are often associated with youth and vitality. By eliminating the “turkey neck” or double chin, a neck lift can enhance your overall facial profile, giving you a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Long-Lasting Results
Unlike non-surgical treatments that may require frequent touch-ups, a neck lift provides long-lasting results. With proper care, the effects of a neck lift can last for many years, making it a worthwhile investment in your appearance.
Minimal Scarring
Advanced surgical techniques have minimised the visibility of scars associated with neck lifts. Incisions are typically small and strategically placed in natural skin folds or behind the ears, making them virtually invisible once healed.
Enhanced Overall Appearance
While a neck lift primarily targets the neck area, it also contributes to an overall more youthful and refreshed facial appearance.

Incisions for a neck lift incision in front of the earlobe in the natural crease and behind the ear in the hairline. Through these incisions, Dr Oates elevates and repositions the underlying muscles and facial tissue. Patients are then discharged later that same day.
Following surgery, it is important for a patient to follow the comprehensive post-surgical instructions provided to them. Appointments are scheduled at regular intervals where post-operative care is provided and a patient’s recovery is monitored.
Patients can expect to experience mild bleeding from the incision line, pain and discomfort, swelling, bruising and numbness. These symptoms are part of the normal healing process following a neck lift, however patients are advised to contact the practice if they become concerned or require further information.
Dressings and bandages are generally removed at one day, sutures at one week, and staples at two to three weeks following surgery.
