In order to have smooth, healthy skin, it’s important to get rid of dead skin cells on a regular basis. To achieve an even more polished look, it also helps to get rid of unwanted facial hair. Dermaplaning can do both.

After cleansing the skin thoroughly, a 10-gauge scalpel is gently scraped over the face to help remove the build-up of dead skin cells and hair. If LED light therapy is added to treatment, it will follow after dermaplaning has been carried out. The treatment may leave the skin feeling a little tingly during and for a short time post-treatment.
Most patients go straight back to their normal activities after a dermaplaning session. However, it’s important not to apply makeup directly after your appointment. Some patients may experience some redness and a slight tingling sensation for several hours post-treatment, which is why many choose to go home afterwards. It’s important to follow a simple skincare routine for the first two weeks, using lightweight, high-quality products. Sun exposure and excessive heat should be avoided for at least 3 days after treatment. Be sure not to swim in a chlorinated pool for at least 24 hours as the harsh chemicals can have a negative effect on your sensitive skin.
In terms of undergoing facial treatments after a dermaplaning session, patients are encouraged to avoid facial waxing for at least a week. Cosmetic injections and exfoliating should also be avoided for at least 2 weeks, if not more.
Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that involves using a 10-gauge scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dull, dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. Working in conjunction with manual exfoliation it also helps to remove the soft vellus hairs (soft fluffy hair), while aiding the penetration of cosmeceuticals.

If you want to upgrade your dermaplaning treatment, combine it with LED light therapy? Low-level light therapy (LLLT) with Healite II is the therapeutic use of diode (LED) light to enhance your body’s natural cellular recovery, improving healing times, relieving pain, subsiding active acne, promoting skin rejuvenation and more. The pain-free and non-invasive treatment delivers concentrated energy deep into your tissue affecting your body at a cellular level. By combining a dermaplaning session with LED light therapy, you rejuvenate your skin from the inside out.
If you’re treating your face, we schedule treatments at 6-week intervals. For the body we schedule treatments every 3 or more months. Some patients may need to go 6 months in between treatments. Your Academy Face and Body clinician will discuss these specific requirements with you following a thorough consultation.
Every patient will receive tailored recommendations during their consultation. This means it’s difficult to determine an exact cost without knowing exactly what your requirements are. The areas you want to treat, how many sessions you require and whether or not you want to add LED light therapy to the mix will all determine the final cost of your sessions. Schedule a consultation if you want a more accurate quotation.

Yes, your hair will grow back. It will also be exactly the same colour and thickness as it once was. It’s not uncommon for your hair to appear slightly darker after a dermaplaning treatment plan because your skin is much brighter.
