Submental Liposculpture is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove excess fat. This is often a problem in younger patients who, despite diet and exercise, have some excess rounding in the area under the chin – often hereditary. Having a relatively small amount of fat removed via Liposuction can make all the difference.

Dr Oates performs Submental Liposculpture at Academy Day Hospital under twilight sedation and local anaesthetic (tumescent fluid).
Tiny incisions, are made under the chin , also behind the ears. Using small specialised suction cannulas, the fat is gently removed using suction .
You may experience some swelling and bruising. This is normal.
During the first 24-48 hours following surgery, excess fluid (tumescent) may drain from the small incisions. You may be required to wear a facial garment for 1 week.
7-14 days depending on the amount of physical activity involved in your line of work.
You may experience mild to moderate discomfort. Discomfort can be managed with over the counter analgesics or as prescribed by Dr Oates and his team of doctors.
Your pre and post operative care is managed by our Registered Nurses. This will include pre operative assessment and post operative wound management.
Submental Liposculpture is usually very safe and complications are rare, however there is a small risk of complications with any surgical procedure. These may include:
Your first step is an initial consultation with Dr Oates. If you have a GP referral you can claim some of the cost from Medicare. If Dr Oates decides you are a suitable candidate for Submental Liposculpture and you want to go ahead, a booking for surgery and the pre operative care is scheduled. The usual waiting time is three to four weeks.
