Harnessing the potent, fast acting benefits of Trichloracetic acid, the TCA 12% peel treatment deeply exfoliates the skin and can refine, hydrate, refresh and plump the skin. Recommended for women and men of all ages with mild to moderate sun damage or signs of aging, TCA peels are known for improving skin tone and texture on the face, neck and décolletage with minimal discomfort or downtime.

There are some reasons why the TCA Peel may not be suitable for you. These include:
Sunburn in the treatment area
Facial surgery within the last 12 months
Anyone pregnant or breast-feeding should seek medical advice before proceeding
Recent use of Roaccutane – use of the medication must have stopped for double the amount of time it was being taken
Eczema, active rosacea, dermatitis, or open wounds of any kind
Cancer or radiation therapy
Active Herpes Simplex (cold sores)
IPL, waxing, injectable treatments or laser therapy within the last week
Note: Anyone prone to cold sores should advise their nurse or dermal therapist
How many sessions do I need?
It depends on factors such as the desired outcome, peel strength, and skin type and condition, but we usually recommend a course of 2 – 4 peels.
What does I feel like?
Patients initially experience a hot prickling sensation as the TCA Peel is applied, which neutralises and subsides after a few minutes. This is also helped by a device which blows cold air onto the treated area and helps to significantly reduce the sting. Designed as a superficial, mild peel you will see a noticeable difference after each session but the strength and therefore affects can be increased by layering applications. This will depend on the patient’s skin type, desired outcome, and skin condition.
How does my skin look after the treatment?
Skin will appear shiny, and feel tight and dry
Sensitivity and mild to moderate redness (similar to sunburn) which will last 12 – 48 hours
Dark, dull areas on the skin may appear as it prepares to shed
Sheet peeling (like sunburn) will occur for around 3 – 7 days after your treatment, will occur in varying amounts. Do not pick or peel skin prematurely as it can lead to scarring
Skin is often slightly pink for 1 – 2 days after it has shed, is more even in colour, feels smoother, and has a healthy glow
Peeling or picking of the skin prematurely may lead to prolonged healing, infection and scarring
Possible herpes simplex outbreak if prone to cold sores
Hyperpigmentation (darker areas of pigment on the skin) lasting 1 to 12 months
Some clients may experience mild temporary swelling of treatment area
We recommend priming the skin with Ultraceuticals Even Skintone Serum and/ or A Smoothing Complex for a minimum of 2 weeks before having a TCA peel. This will help to speed up healing times, maximise peel results and reduces the risk of any post-peel complications. At your initial consultation a specific skincare regime will be recommended.
TCA 12% Peels will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. A course of three (3) TCA 12% peels may be recommended and are performed fortnightly to monthly apart.
