An eyelift, which is medically term referred to as a Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of skin the eyelid and surrounding areas.
There are three types of Blepharoplasty surgical procedures:
- Upper Blepharoplasty
The upper blepharoplasty involves an incision within the crease of the upper eyelid where and skin is removed. - Lower Blepharoplasty (External Incision)
The lower blepharoplasty is done with an incision made close to the lower lash line and skin is removed. - Lower Blepharoplasty (Internal Incision)
The lower blepharoplasty is performed with an internal incision made on the inside of the lower lid, leaving no visible scar. No skin is removed using this type of blepharoplasty.

THE COST OF A BLEPHAROPLASTY IN PERTH
The cost of a blepharoplasty procedure with Dr Oates will vary, due to the individual requirements of each patient.
Following an initial consultation, the patient will be provided with a detailed estimate of any recommended procedure/s, calculated based on the following:
- Surgeon Fee
- Hospital Fee
- Type of anaesthesia
- Type of blepharoplasty technique
- Post-operative care + review appointments
The procedure
Dr Oates performs blepharoplasty procedures at the government-licensed Academy Day Hospital, on-site at Academy Face and Body in Subiaco, Perth under twilight sedation.
The procedure will take between 60-90 minutes and can be performed under general anaesthetic if requested.
Incisions for a blepharoplasty are made either above or below the eye. Through these incisions, Dr Oates removes any surplus skin and the incisions are closed using stitches.
Immediately after the procedure, sterile dressings are placed over the incisions and pressure goggles are then placed over the eyes, these are to help with swelling and bruising while aiding with post-surgical discomfort.
Patients are then discharged later that same day.
The Recovery
You will remain in the recovery room for minimum of two hours post surgery and you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after the surgery. A post-operative review is carried by our team of registered nurses.
If you have had stitches in the surgery, these will be removed 5-6 days after surgery. Any swelling or bruising can be covered by make up after 10 days.
The feeling that most patients report is mild to moderate discomfort due largely to the swelling.
Most patients that have undergone blepharoplasty surgery will need 7-14 days off work depending on the level of physical activity in their industry.
